Tatiana A. Gubenko was born in Kiev, Ukraine. From an early age, she showed interest in drawing and was home tutored by academy art teachers. That had great influence on her artistic view of life. However, Tatiana refused to enter art school; based on the wishes of her father, she went into the world of mathematics, chemistry and technical drafting. She graduated from Polytechnic University of Kiev, with MS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
In 1992, her family and she moved to the United States, 30 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. in the state of Virginia, where she resides until present day. Only in her mid-40's did Tatiana begin studying traditional iconography under Master Iconographers Vladislav Andrejev and his son Dimitry Andrejev. After five years of diligent study, she has become an instructor of this ancient style in 2018. She has organized and conducted iconography classes in the United States and in Ukraine, continuing to pass along the traditional techniques through the generations, while creating her own work and honing in on her skills. There are dozens of hours of meticulous work in each icon, each piece being one of a kind and showcasing the art of iconography. |
